What would I say to my 20-year-old self?

Young entrepreneurship

A few weeks ago I was in a masterclass and the question was asked what I would say to the younger version of myself?

Well, that question made me think for a moment (and maybe longer….), I can tell you …

I tried to imagine where I was when I was 20 and what I was doing at the time. I am well aware that my young life did not look very ordinary, because I started working and building a business at a young age.

Building your business

At the age of 20 I was not at the parties and I was mainly busy building my business, I had an international karate career and I did a part-time bachelor. I also honestly had no idea where to get the time to go to a party at all…

I was just busy with completely different things and had a different mission in my life. To be honest, I have never regretted it to this day, because I don’t feel like I missed anything and I caught up with those parties later (maybe these parties were even more fun than before).

Work hard, play hard!

If I were to run into myself at that age now, there are certainly things I would like to say to myself that could really have made a difference to me.

Don’t always take things too seriously and enjoy life and the road you travel. Even the bumpy times are here to learn and to build us. Every scar will eventually turn out to be part of your superpower!

Celebrate your own milestones and build your own party. Don’t expect someone else to do this for you.

Work hard, play hard!

If you think you deserve something then you should ask for it, don’t wait for it to happen to you because chances are you will keep waiting forever…

Don’t get stuck with the wrong people around you. Say goodbye and quickly pull the plug if needed.. It’s like rotting fruit and you don’t leave a rotting apple on the bowl either.

Enjoy every single day

And the most important lesson I learned from my brother is that you really should enjoy every single day because life can just be over in a split second. Cherish the beautiful moments, make time for the people you love, try to see the positive in everything and live your own life and on your terms!

What would you say to your 20-year-old self?

With love, Hendrika
